As I was sitting in church last night, the topic was facing your giant. I was listening to the sermon and I found so many similarities in what we do as business owners and it made me take a step back. These principles we talked about in church really apply to our lives, especially with the concept of being present and not having regret and living our lives to the fullest.
A little background on me: I am a recovering quitter and believed that I don’t deserve my dreams. Still this day, I struggle with it! I love to work and I love my job. I love helping people reach their fullest potential and I am always thinking about the next step and create new ideas to put myself out there. I really lean into when I have a feeling and run with it, without even thinking about it, now!
The problem is that when you’re a quitter/believer of you don’t deserve your dreams, and when things get hard or just scary, to begin with, you find every exit strategy possible. I struggled with maintaining this balance on a daily basis!! I now make sure that I address those fears and let God lead me on the how and wherein this because, if I didn't I would find myself still scrolling, still dreaming, and still comparing myself to them who are doing what I desire for my life!
Reality is not perfection. We are all imperfect and flawed and that’s what makes us amazing individuals! Goodness, I could not imagine all of us being alike this would be such a boring, mundane world!
So as I was thinking about this topic of living a life without regret, I was thinking of all the things I personally don’t want to miss out on. But it’s important to note that for me, living a life without regret might mean something totally different than it does for you.
For example, I don’t have a hard time working. What I do have a hard time with is still trying to compare myself to her who is flying to the top of her business with ease (or so it seems.)
The first thing I want to ask you is this: are you aware of how you’re positioning yourself? If you have these hopes and dreams, are you positioning yourself in a way for opportunities to arise? Or are you sitting back and waiting for things to happen to you? As someone who wants more out of life, you need to show up and position yourself where you are ready to accept the challenge in front of you. But a lot of people are just waiting to hit it big. It’s the small, insignificant tasks in the trenches that add up.#TRUTH Combined with an open heart, you will be blessed with opportunity!!
I cannot stress enough how important it is to just SHOW UP! You might have an opportunity waiting but you’re not there for it, so you miss out. Are you doing your vitals? Are you paying attention to where you are succeeding and where you are failing? Are you calling yourself out on your own BS?
My next point is also super important. You cannot wait for a guarantee of success before you take a leap of faith. O good grief if I had a quarter for every time I said this in the past or how often I hear it now, I wouldn’t have to work any business and I would be on the beach sipping margaritas!
I can almost bet you got super excited about your goals this past January, but maybe now you’re just sitting on them and you haven’t done anything to reach them. You’re waiting for a sign or a guarantee that it’s all going to work out. You’re afraid to take that leap of faith because what if you fail?
Guess what? There will never be a guarantee of success!!! You have to be willing to give your own word that you are going to try until you figure it out. That is when you’ll be blessed with an opportunity to succeed.
Fail forward! Really put yourself in a position where you can fail. Failure is not a bad thing – you can teach yourself to handle it and make the most of it. If you fail, say to yourself “What did I learn from this situation?” Take that failure, turn it into a learning experience, and use it to grow. All it takes is reframing the way failure feels and taking it as a win and an opportunity to grow and change. I wish I could count and tell you how many times I have failed in business just this year... but I quit keeping track and kept tracking forward.
You have the power – it’s all up to you to make that happen. There’s no end date. If you stick it out and lean into the opportunity, you will find success and it will feel right. You will know that is where you’re supposed to be!
When it comes to living a life without regret, you need to do what’s right when no one is watching...not when it’s not necessarily convenient for you. At some point in life, you’ll get to a position where you might not feel like you need to do those “things” anymore. But you need to humble yourself. Volunteer to do the things that other people are not willing to do. It’s in those actions that you are brought back to your foundation and you can remind yourself that you are not above anyone else. Remind yourself that what you do in private will always be revealed in public.
